November 2014 -    GEORGIA MORRIS

What a week for Georgia Morris.

Georgia was short listed for the Sports Officials UK Awards (for all sports) in the Young Official of the Year category.  England Netball nominated Georgia for this award for her dedication and commitment to umpiring at a tender age. Several Titans members travelled to Daventry (30th Oct) to attend the awards ceremony, where we mixed with the officiating celebrities.

Georgia did not actually win the award, but only 3 officials were short listed for this category, so, we are mighty proud of Georgia's achievement.

In the same week, Georgia also passed her Level One Award in coaching.

2nd November 2014 - Well done to Sarah Durrant on passing your Level One in Coaching Award with flying colours.

Sarah is actively coaching our U12 section, and will pass on her knowledge and skills to excel this group.

2nd November 2014 - Many congratulations to Rebecca Manley on successfully passing her 'A' award in umpiring, with flying colours. Rebecca has shown true grit and determination to fulfil her goals, after passing on the 3rd attempt. She has put in 8 years of effort to achieve her goal, and today, finally succeeded. Titans NC are very proud of her achievement, and especially Lorraine Beel, of whom has worked alongside Rebecca to achieve this status.

Rebecca is the first umpire of the South West Talented Youth Umpiring Programme to achieve their 'A' award status!

Well done Becks!!!!!!!

October 2014 - Many Congratulations to Georgia Morris - Short listed for 'Young Official of the Year' at the SOUK awards (Sports Officials UK). This is a massive achievement, as England Netball only nominated 4 members throughout the country, and Georgia was short listed for this event.

Georgia will now travel to Daventry in early November for the ceremony.

Wishing Georgia the best of luck

A winner already in Titans eyes.

19.05.2014    Wow, wow and super wow!!!  We have 4 nominations in the South West Regional Goalden Globes for 2014.
Outstanding Netball Club - TITANS

Official - Rebecca Manley
Muriel McNally Award (outstanding contribution to netball/coaching/umpiring/admin) - Lorraine Beel.
Certainly look forward to the Awards Ceremony in Taunton on Sunday 6th July.
Unfortunately Titans did not come away with any winners at this Awards Ceremony, but we were highly mentioned on being nominated for 4 Awards, and presented with our Gold Caps.

16.05.2014   16 year old Georgia Morris wins 'Young Volunteer of the Year' at the Devon Active Sports Awards. Georgia has shown amazing commitment to netball over the last season, with over 100 hours logged on her 'Pass On Your Passion' scheme. Always on hand to coach or umpire within our club.

She has also won an Award at the Torridge Community Action Through Sports Awards (CATS), and will be attending an awards ceremony in early June to receive her prize.

16th to 18th May 2014 -    Titans Netball Club take 3 teams to Pontins at Burnham on Sea for a weekend of netball, fun and frolics. A cracking weekend, including Penguins and a Polar Bear and plenty of sunshine.

Titans Apollo retain the Champions Title for Division One in the North Devon Senior League for 2013/14. Such a fantastic achievement for all their hard efforts over the last 12 months. It was certainly a thriller for all the spectators for the finale match of the season, taking on local rivals Carol Anne Diamonds. Knowing that we could afford to lose by the smallest of margins, of up to 5 goals, we were just pipped of having an unbeaten record for the season, when Diamonds edged the match in the last 2 minutes, to win by 2 goals (41-39). The match was certainly there for the taking, and everyone on court played their part to retain the title. Player of the match plaudits went to Rebecca Manley at wing attack, for her timing on the ball, and giving options to her team mates.

Team line up (left to right): Lorraine Cleverdon, Kellie Finney, Paula Young, Ruth Chamings, Rebecca Manley, Clare Aldrich, Katie Jeffery and Louise Lathwell.  Missing from photo: Nicola Hinton.

12.01.2014  Titans U14 team 'Galaxy' are Champions of the North Devon Netball Junior U14 League for 2013/14 season, completing their campaign with a fabulous victory over local rivals Carol Anne 19-3.  Well Done: Daisy Totterdell, Georgina Crossbie, Ella Gill, Ellie Wyborn, Millie Wilton, Izzy Manley, Chloe Cooper, Millie White & Nicola Dunkin. A true credit to our club. A massive thank you to their dedicated coach Liz Wilton.

Hannah Little has successfully passed her 'C' award in umpiring. Only having picked up the whistle in the last few months, Hannah has shown everyone, her ability to excel on the umpiring pathway in such a short period of time. One of her key strengths noted, as speed, drive and hold, with her positioning and timing on court. Well done Hannah.

15.12.2013  Exciting News for 'Up and Coming' umpiring star of Titans, as Rebecca Manley is invited for the 2nd time, to umpire at the Inter Golf Tournament in Bahrain, in March 2014.  Well Done Rebecca.

01.12.2013 Titans (combined with players from Venners NC) started their campaign in the South West Regional U16 League strongly, with a convincing win over Bridgwater 43 - 17. Everyone played their part, with fine interceptions, tips and positive shooting.  They certainly looked smart, and played smart, with the added bonus of their lovely new kit, kindly sponsor by Richard Brend (of Taw Ford Garages).

Player of the match went to Heloise Johnson in defence.

Line Up: Back Row (l to r): Lucy Burnett, Lizzie Nicholas, Emily Risdon, Heloise Johnson, Christina Brend. Front Row: Helena Sarney, Georgia Morris (captain), Millie Wilton and Jo Nancekivell.

November 2013 - 15 year old Georgia Morris having successfully passed her 'C' award earlier this month, will now join the Talented Youth Umpiring Programme (TYUP) for the South West Region. Having had a truly fantastic season of umpiring, Georgia not only picked up Titans Umpire of the Year, but also the North Devon Netball League Umpire of the Year.

Georgia is excelling on the umpiring circuit, and will now have her first workshop on the TYUP on 8th December 2013, in Bristol. She will be listening to the best in the umpiring world, with tutor, the one and only, England Netball's Sheelagh Redpath.

We wish Georgia well in her umpiring career, along side her mentor Lorraine Beel, I'm sure she will go far.

18.11.2013  Titans Apollo take on Carol Anne Diamonds for the top spot in the North Devon League, winning 37 - 31.

Titans certainly had the jitters on court, and at times, made the fine interception, only to give the ball away with an unforced error.

Quarter time scores: 8-10 down ; 20-17 up; 28-24 up; 37-31.

Player of the match plaudits went to Clare Aldrich.

Team Line up: Paula Young, Ruth Chamings, Katie Jeffery, Clare Aldrich, Kellie Finney, Lorraine Cleverdon, Louise Lathwell, Rebecca Manley and Nicky Hinton.

11.11.2013  Congratulations to Titans umpires Melissa Barnard and Georgia Morris on successfully passing their 'C' umpiring award. After completely their written assessment and bleep test, they sailed through their practical assessment with flying colours. A fantastic knowledge of the rules, and both applied their skills on court, to come away with a very good pass. 15 year old Georgia will now be enrolled onto the Talented Youth Umpiring Programme (TYUP), for the South West region. Both umpires have the making to go to great heights in their umpiring pathway. A very proud moment for the club.

20.10.2013 Congratulations to Rebecca Manley on passing her practical pre-assessment for her 'A' award umpiring. Rebecca travelled to Southampton for her assessment, to umpire a South Region fixture between Vipers and Just Ahead. Rebecca got positive feedback, and is now awaiting for her 'A' award test (hopefully before the year is out).

Fingers and toes crossed, as she is part of the TYUP. (Talented Youth Umpiring Programme) that was set up in the South West region a few years ago, with the aim to progress our young and talented umpires.

19.10.2013 Titans regional squad can now surely not be classified as the 'underdogs' within the top two teams in North Devon. For many a year, Titans have always been chasing the tails of Carol Anne Diamonds, but today they showed their class when they met in the South West Regional League, crushing the Diamonds by 30 goals, to win 59-29. Always in full control with their determination, speed, agility, defending and shooting. With such depth to the squad for the season, players are fighting for their positions, and so many strong combinations. Well done!!  Team line up: Louise Lathwell, Lorraine Cleverdon, Rebecca Manley, Clare Aldrich, Katie Jeffery, Ruth Chamings, Paula Young, Kellie Finney, Louise Lincoln, Nicola Hinton and Nicole Lathwell.
06.10.2013 Titans/Venners U16 combined team finish 2nd in the East Devon County tournament at Exeter Uni to secure a spot in the South West U16 Regional League for the forthcoming season. A fantastic team performance from the combined clubs, seeing victorys over Honiton 10 - 4, Exeter 11 - 6, Carol Anne 'A' 9 - 0, Venners 11 - 3. Carol Anne 'B' 16 - 2 and narrowly losing to winners West Exe 11 - 8. Team Line Up; (l to r): Georgia Morris, Heloise Johnson, Emily Risdon, Lizzie Nicholas, Lucy Burnett, Millie White, Helena Sarney and Christina Brend.
25.09.2013  French coaches Aym & Anthony from Handball Devon come to Titans training, to take a session on how to play Handball.  A fabulous opportunity to try out this fast growing sport, in which all of us thoroughly enjoyed. We got very competitive, and there were 18 pairs of 'sticky hands' on court.  Can't wait to have them back again.

21.09.2013 Titans take a vast amount of silverware at the Annual North Devon Netball League Awards evening.

17.09.2013 Umpire Lorraine Beel had the great opportunity to umpire the England Netball team versus the Men's National Team at Bath, in preparation for the World Test Series. It made for a thrilling encounter with the men pushing the umpires to their maximum limit. At times it felt as though there were 7 extra umpires on the court, and the men needed to 'man up' on several occasions. The sweat was literally dripping off me at the end. It was mind blowing!

08.09.2013  Titans Regional Squad take 4th spot out of 13 teams at the South West Regional League Pre Season Tournament at Exeter University. Starting the day with a great win over Hucclecote Comets 11 - 7. They then took on the tournament winners of the day (div 1 side) Exeter. With only 2 minutes on the clock, Titans had a 4 goal lead, but this dwindled down to level with 20 seconds remaining on the clock, and somehow we managed to keep her wits about us, to secure the draw of 8 all. (We were the only team to score points on the winners of the day, so, very pleased with this result)

We then took on the experienced Cornish side of Saints (Div 1 champions last season). This was certainly a challenge, and all players in the team got to take to the court, to experience the play of these strong, well drilled players. We came off with a hefty defeat of 16 - 4. Next challenge was our local rivals of Carol Anne Diamonds. We dominated from the first whistle and were always in full control, coming away with a fine victory 12 - 10.

Our last 2 matches in this pool, were against Old Chelts (winning 18 - 4), and Devizes (winning 13 -8). Our new regional players to the squad, Nicole Lathwell and Mel Barnard slotting well into the game.  Since Cornish side Saints had lost to Exeter and Hucclecote, Titans then secured the runners up spot for this group. We then had to take on the Division 1 experienced side of Crossbow from Bristol in the Semi final. We started well and matched possession on the court. Coming in at half time the score line was 3 goals to 1 in Crossbow's favour.  We fought hard for the second period, but our long range shots didn't find the net, as in previous games, and we lost the battle 9 - 6.  For our final game for 3rd/4th place standings, we took on Hucclecote Stars. The young side started well, and intercepted many a passes, making Titans creep a few unforced errors into the game. At half time the score line was 6 - 2 to Hucclecote.  For the last half, we continued to battle, but tiredness crept in, and Hucclecote pulled away to take the game 11 - 3. On a positive note, Titans were very pleased to take 4th spot for the tournament, and lots of combinations of players were used on court. Considering new players into the team today, Titans took on board their roles to play, and this makes for an exciting regional season ahead of us.  WELL DONE.

Players: Back row (l tor): Katrina Venner, Louise Lincoln, Paula Young, Nicola Hinton, Ruth Chamings, Clare Aldrich, Front row: Louise Lathwell, Nicole Lathwell, Mel Barnard and Rebecca Manley.

01.09.2013  Titans enter three teams in the North Devon Netball League Pre Season tournament in which saw Titans Apollo coming Runners Up in the Division One trophy.  Titans Plutos won the Division Two trophy, successfully winning all their matches, and Titans Jupiters came 3rd in Division Two.  Success also for 3 of our Titans umpires, winning the trophy of 'UMPIRE OF THE DAY'. Well done to Melissa Barnard, Georgia Morris and Jenny Burnett.

19.05.2013  Another successful week for the mighty Titans!!

Team Bath 13 - 8

We will now be playing in the South West Regional League Division 2 for the forthcoming 2013/14 season.

Well Played: Paula Young, Louise Lincoln, Nicola Hinton, Lorraine Cleverdon, Ruth Chamings, Louise Lathwell, Clare Aldrich, Rebecca Manley and Katie Jeffery.

13.05.2013 Titans Apollo are the number one team in North Devon!! They took the Division One title by beating their nearest rivals Carol Anne Diamonds in a thriller match, resulting in a 33 - 30.
A magical night for the club, with emotions running high. Our dedication and enthuasiam saw us work together, and get the most glorious prize. 15 Years Diamonds have reigned at the top, but as it was nicely put last night, 'Diamonds are not forever'.
Our supporters were in fine spirits to lift our girls all the way to the end. Champayne was spraying onto the court and singing, screaming and crying filling into the air.
The North Devon Journal reporter and photographer were there to capture the moments, and I'm sure the pictures and write up this week will be a memorable one.
Our build up was good too, with Lightning Superleague player Naomi Henry taking a defending coaching session 2 weeks ago, and then a training session with Venners NC last week.
The report:
Self believe - thats all we needed. Rebecca Manley was invaluable with her coaching knowledge, in which played a very important part to our tactics on court.
We started strongly and took a couple of goals advantage. The linkage up court was working well, with great timing. We were safe on the ball, and shooting stats started well. Mid way into the first quarter and what potentially could have been fatal for Apollo, was an injury time out to our keeper Louise Lincoln. In agony on the floor with a knee injury, our hearts were in our hands, in which we looked like a need for an ambulance. But, dear old Julie Fay came rushing over (still has the blue Titan blood in her!), and calmed Louise down. Tears were following, but after the initial shock, and thinking Nicky Hinton would need to replace her, up Lou got to her feet, and with 10 seconds left on the injury clock, Lou wanted to play on!
Diamonds were rattled from the first whistle. Their discipline was poor, and the umpires had to take a strong handle on several of their players. Coming in from the first quarter, we were one goal up (9-8).
We continued to surge on for the 2nd quarter, everyone was playing their socks off. Diamonds struggled to get their high balls into their shooter, and defenders Louise Lincoln and Ruth Chamings linked well together. This was only Ruth's second outing with the Apollo team, and she certainly stepped up to the plate. Lorraine Cleverdons fitness shone all over the court, making tips and interceptions. We capitalized in this quarter, and came off at half time leading 19 - 14.
For the 3rd quarter, the goal post was against us in this period. Lathwell's shots were spinning around the ring, but just wouldn't sink into the net. We struggled to obtain many rebounds with the height of their player of the match (keeper Vicky Hair). How Lathwell even managed to shoot with the height and arms of her keeper is truly remarkable! Diamonds took advantage of these rebounds and started to claw their way back into the game. A few wayward balls on occasions, and they took the opening to get back to level scores at the end of this quarter (23 - 23).
Coming in for the interval and we needed to boost up everyones believe. Kellie wanted to switch for some fresh legs, but we all felt that we needed to keep the same line up. We couldn't have hoped for a better start to the final quarter. We pulled off a fine interception to take the first goal. Everyone was putting in 110% effort. Katie Jeffery was working tiredlessly in wing defence and hassled their captain. Ruth and Louise were intercepting to allow the ball up to our shooters. About 5 minutes into this last quarter, the pressure got to our shooters for a little spell, and the ball just didn't sink into our net. It was frustating to see their keeper gaining the rebounds. But, our spirits kept us going. Not once had Diamonds had their noses infront, and we were not going to allow it to happen in the final period. Clare Aldrich's speed didn't faulter, and a vital interception by Clare enabled the ball to be overturned. Cleverdon was working hard around the circle, and she suddenly got 3 goals on the score board, without any reply from Diamonds. At 12 minutes, we were 6 goals up. Nicky and I were bouncing on the side lines, thinking, can they, can't they? With one minute to go, we were still 4 goals up, and I was watching the clock to get the seconds ticked down. That final whistle was music to our ears. We had finally managed to succeed, after 10 years of trying.
All our supporters and players went beserk (in my words!!). We were screaming, hugging, singing and dancing.
Not that I wanted to tempt fate, but I sent Dawn Morris to my car for the bottle of champers!! We had done it.
After photos and reports were taken, off to the pub we went for a celebratory drink and match analysis (and £38 out of my purse!)
Well done to Apollo:
GK Louise Lincoln
GD Ruth Chamings
WD Katie Jeffery
C Clare Aldrich
WA Kellie Finney
GA Lorraine Cleverdon
GS Louise Lathwell
